April Griseta is the owner of the Counseling Cove, P. A. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor(LMHC) and Certified Addictions Professional (CAP). She also has additional certifications in Grief Recovery, Domestic Violence and Pastoral Care. April has worked with the homeless population, including abused and neglected children, as well as individuals with HIV/AIDS. Her primary specialty area is working with the chemically dependent and adult homeless populations. She also is a motivational speaker and offers several training's in areas of emotional wholeness, spiritual wellness and conquering addiction and maintaining recovery.
Depression (Major Depressive Disorder) -
A qualified mental health care professional must fully assess
individual before giving someone a diagnosis of Major Depressive
WHY? It is
more than just the” blues”. It is a serious medical condition that can
interfere with your ability to function. Also, a comprehensive
assessment is needed because people may experience the same symptoms
due to a general medical condition, substance use or bereavement.
Major depression is when a person has five or more
symptoms of depression for at least 2 weeks. These symptoms must
represent a change from previous functioning and one of these
symptoms must be either depressed mood or loss of interest
or pleasure. Other symptoms may be significant weight loss when not
dieting or weight gain, changes in sleeping patterns,
agitation, feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, inappropriate
guilt, loss of energy, diminished ability to think or concentrate,
thoughts of death or suicide or specific plan to harm oneself.

Anxiety - Some symptoms of anxiety are
excessive worry, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating,
irritability, muscle tension, sleep disturbance. The mental health
professional must make sure it is not Panic Disorder, Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder, PTSD, Adjustment Disorders, general medical
conditions (i.e.: hyperthyroidism) or anxiety that has been
substance induced. A licensed clinician must fully assess individual
before giving diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Reaction to a major loss. People may experience depressed mood,
crying, anger, denial, shock and/or guilt. Many people who have
suffered loss need to process the things they wish had ended
differently, better or more.
Full substance use assessments are administered to determine
whether a person is abusing drugs or have become dependent on
substances. Dependency is characterized by withdrawal symptoms ,and/or
increased tolerance, continued use despite knowledge of having a
persistent or recurrent physical or psychological problem that is
likely to have caused or exacerbated by the substance, unsuccessful
attempts to cut down. Proper “ level of
care” recommendations are given. Early warning signs, identifying high
risk situations and relapse prevention skills are taught by
certified addictions professional here at the Cove.
Co - Dependency-
Some signs that you may be co dependent are: You are a rescuer, you
will do anything to hold onto a relationship, you have an excessive
need for approval, keep quiet to avoid arguments, have trouble telling
people no, hard to be yourself, take on a martyr’s role.

Stress Management -
A holistic paradigm is used to
address stress. Progressive muscle relaxation techniques, deep
breathing exercises, proper nutrition, exercise, time management and
self talk are taught.
Couples Counseling -Counselor
assesses your relational strengths and builds on areas that may need
growth. Areas such as intimacy, communication, conflict resolution and
intergeneration issues are explored.
Research outcome on couples counseling suggest that at the end of
couples therapy 75% of couples receiving therapy are better off than
similar couples who did not receive therapy.
